Garry’s original method was modified for purpose of useful laboratory practice. In this modified method authors use only 5ul of serum instead of 20㎕, and incubated for 15minutes instead of 3 minutes. The results were very satisfactory.

This study was undertaken to evaluate the usefulness of a rapid micromethod for determination of serum calcium. In 1966 Connrty and Briggs presented a greatly improved manual spectrophotometric method based upon release of the bound calcium by means of protein precipitation and the complete masking of the response of the dye to magnesium by means of 8-quinolinol. Their method was applied to a rapid micromethod in which the process of deproteinization was omitted and only 50 microliters serum was used as a sample instead of 1ml. Clark-Collip method, Diehl-Ellingboe’s EDTA method, and a micromethod using orthocresolphthalein a colar regent were carried out with thirty samples to compare the results each other. On the other hand normal values of healthy Koreans, male 96, female 94, were surveyed by the above mentioned micromethod. The results were followings. 1. Clark-Collip method: mean 9.03 mg Diehl-Ellingboe method: mean 8.99 mg A rapid micromethod: mean 8.88 mg 2. Normal values of Koreans by the rapid micromethod: male 9.47±0.45 mg, female 8.79±0.41 mg%, without consideration of sex 9.14±0.53 mg% Serum calcium levels of Koreans appeared to be lower than those of whites.

A new method for measurement of total serum lipids was introduced by Flings and Dunn recently based on sulfo-phospho-vanillin reaction and colorimetric determination. Total serum lipids were determined by this is new method on 100 Korean adults and obtained mean 398 mg/100 ml and two standard deviation ±120 mg/100 ml. This new method seems speedy, simple, and reliable to compare with phenol turbidity method.

Drabkin's cyanmethemoglobin method is acknowledged as the best available photometric procedure for the determination of total hemoglobin in blood. In Korea standard hemoglobin (Acuglobin, Ortho Co.) has been not imported, so cyanmethemoglobin method in hemoglobinometry is not widely used in many hospitals which are equiped with spectrophotometer. Only a few hospitals are available for this method by using Fisher Hemophotometer. Hemoglobin, however, can be calculated without standard solution by knowing extinction coefficient of cyanmethemoglobin in various photometers. Authors present the extinction coefficient in Beckman DU, Beckman B, Coleman Jr. 6, and Spectronic 20.

A 15-month-old infant who had a history of dysuria, pyuria, fever and suprapubic tumor mass for a period of days was admitted in June in 1966. The bladder was opened suprapubically. It was filled with grape-like, grey, gelatinous masses. Microscopically the surface epithelium has undergone squamous metaplastic, and neoplastic tissue reveals both myxomatous and fibromatous patterns. In the latter a few tumor giant cells with one or more nuclei are very occasionally seen. In a few areas tumor cells simulate epitheloid arrangement. No mitotic figures. No striation was found on phosphotungustic stain.
